NAMI Basics is a no-cost 6-week session program for parents, foster parents and primary caregivers of adolescents who have shown signs or symptoms of a mental health condition. Course runs through May 5 (skipping Easter Sunday). Registration ends Friday March 22 at 2:00 p.m.
Foster parents in Iowa and Illinois are eligible to obtain credit training hours. (2.5 hours for 6 weeks = 15 hours).
This program is taught by trained parents/caregivers who have similar lived experiences of their own children, allowing families to connect, learn and empower themselves to overcome new challenges. This program is offered in part from a Thiesen’s More for Your Community Grant.
Course Elements Include:
~ The biology of the brain
~The latest research advances in treatment and an overview of treatment options
~The impact of a child’s mental health condition on the rest of the family
~ An overview of the systems of care for children and teens living with a mental health condition
