SUMMARY:NAMI Homefront for Service Member Families
DESCRIPTION:NAMI Homefront is a free\, 6-session program for family\, friends and significant others of military Service Members and Veterans. The class helps families understand what the Service Member/ Veteran is experiencing related to trauma\, combat stress\, civilian life transition\, PTSD and other mental health conditions. \nThe program is designed to help family members understand and support their Service Member/Veteran while maintaining their own well-being. NAMI Homefront leaders have personal experience with mental health conditions impacting their Service Member/ Veteran. The class is free but you are expected to attend all six sessions. You must have access to a laptop\, PC or tablet with a stable internet connection to participate. To hear audio\, you will need to call in via telephone. We recommend you use a headset or headphones. \nAn application process is required to ensure this program is a good fit. DESCRIPTION:NAMI Basics is a no-cost 6-week course for parents\, foster parents and primary caregivers of adolescents who are exhibiting signs or symptoms of a mental health condition. Course runs through July 6th. Foster parent CEU credit is available.\n\n\n \n\n\nThis is an online video conference meeting via Zoom. Because we value your safety and privacy only registered attendees may access the course. Video recording is not allowed.\n\n\n \n\n\nTo register\, please call NAMI at 563-386-7477 Ext.266 (M-F\, 10-2) \n\n\nRegister Online. Registration ends May 29 at 2 p.m. \n\n\n \n\n\nFoster parents are eligible to obtain credit training hours. (2.5 hours for 6 weeks = 15 hours).\n\n\n \n\n\nThis nationally-developed program is made possible by the investment of the Muscatine Health Support Granting Fund. SUMMARY:Now Registering for NAMI Basics - Caregivers of Youth Education Program
DESCRIPTION:NAMI Basics is a no-cost 6-week course for parents\, foster parents and primary caregivers of adolescents who are exhibiting signs or symptoms of a mental health condition. Course runs June 1 to July 6. Foster parent CEU credit is available.\n\n\n \n\n\nThis is an online video conference meeting via Zoom. Because we value your safety and privacy only registered attendees may access the course. Video recording is not allowed.\n\n\n \n\n\nTo register\, please call NAMI at 563-386-7477 Ext.266 (M-F\, 10-2) \n\n\nRegister Online. Registration ends May 29 at 2 p.m. \n\n\n \n\n\nFoster parents are eligible to obtain credit training hours. (2.5 hours for 6 weeks = 15 hours).\n\n\n \n\n\nThis nationally-developed program is made possible by the investment of the Muscatine Health Support Granting Fund. NAMI is partnering with the Muscatine Department of Public Health to promote early detection and treatment for mental health conditions.\n\n\n\n\n\nThis course is taught by trained parents or caregivers who have similar lived experiences with their own children and allows families to connect\, learn\, and empower themselves to overcome new challenges.\n\n\n\n\n\nCourse Topics Include:\n\n\n \n\n\n~The impact mental health conditions can have on the whole family \n\n\n \n\n\n~Available professional help\, treatment options and therapies \n\n\n \n\n\n~Resources to help navigate school and justice systems \n\n\n \n\n\n~How to advocate for your child’s rights and to prepare and respond \n\n\nto crisis situations\n\n\n \n\n\n~Self-care

It is open to parents\, grandparents\, foster parents or caregivers of a youth showing signs or symptoms of a mental health condition. Held every Monday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. \n\nNAMI Family Support Group will help you: \n\n\n\n\n\nAim for better coping skills\nFind strength in sharing experiences\nDo not judge anyone’s pain\nForgive ourselves and reject guilt\nEmbrace humor as healthy\nAccept that we cannot solve every problem\nUnderstand that mental health conditions are no one’s fault and can be traumatic experiences\n\n\nAbout our Facilitators:  \n\n\nNAMI facilitators use a nationally-designed model for the group. These facilitators are family education instructors or graduates of a NAMI family education class specializing in youth. They\, too\, have experience with a young family member living with a mental health condition. These trained family members volunteer for NAMI with the hope of supporting other families with lived experience. \nPlease note:  \n\nNAMI does not provide counseling or therapy. Our family support and education programs complement the help you receive from healthcare and social work providers. This support group is held in partnership with UnityPoint Health – Robert Young Center. A grant from United Way of the Quad Cities Area makes this support group possible.
