The group encourages empathy\, productive discussion and a sense of community. \nThis group will help you to:\n~See the individual first\, not the condition\n~Recognize that mental illnesses are medical illnesses that have environmental triggers\n~Understand that mental illness are traumatic events\n~Aim for better coping skills\n~Find strength in sharing experiences\n~Reject stigma and not tolerate discrimination\n~Not judge anyone’s pain\n~Forgive ourselves and reject guilt\n~Embrace humor as healthy\n~Accept that we can not solve every problem \nNAMI Support Groups are unique because they follow a structured model to ensure you and others in the group have an opportunity to be heard and to get what you need.
