“The goal of Trauma Informed Weight Lifting is to promote and facilitate healing for trauma-impacted individuals and groups.” Using the understanding of trauma informed practice, TIWL addresses weight lifting as a way to invite participants back into their bodies using dosing techniques. This practice can begin in the gym or in a therapeutic relationship and offers opportunities for embodied metaphor, mindfulness, and individual needs paired with body movements associated with weight lifting.
