About

St-Paul-Lutheran-Walk-Team

NAMI Greater Mississippi Valley is one of the oldest NAMI affiliates. Formed at a kitchen table in 1979, several families looking for answers teamed up to give you what they wished they’d had. Since then, NAMI has grown into the largest grassroots mental health services organization in the United States.

We are dedicated to improving the lives of people living with mental health conditions and their families. We empower them toward recovery and behavioral health. NAMI does not provide treatment or counseling; rather the organization focuses on education, advocacy and support.

Mental Health Education

NAMI Greater Mississippi Valley works with healthcare providers and other community leaders to address needs within the Quad Cities area. Our work complements treatment, filling an information and education gap between healthcare workers and individuals (and their families). We also provide seminars and support groups online and locally.

Mental Health Advocacy

Each year, along with our national NAMI organization, we fight stigma, provide support, educate the public and advocate for policies that support people with mental illness and their families.

There hasn’t been a time more important than now for the mental health community to come together. One way in which we provide awareness is to humanize these medical conditions via our stories. We feature the experiences of people affected by mental illness in a variety of ways including media campaigns and community presentations.

NAMI Greater Mississippi Valley board members, staff and volunteers also work within the community through the Quad Cities Behavioral Health Coalition and its key initiative Zero Suicide.

NAMI Greater Mississippi Valley (Support)

NAMI Greater Mississippi Valley serves residents of eastern Iowa and western Illinois. All funds raised remain in our area to invest in our no-cost education and support programs. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to Quad Cities mental health services including seminars and support groups. Donations are tax-deductible under IRS ID# 42-1188963.
