NAMI Peer-to-Peer Mental Health Program

NAMI Peer-to-Peer is a free recovery educational program for adults living with mental illness. Taught by trained volunteers with lived experience, this nationally developed course is designed to encourage growth, healing and recovery among participants.

The duration is 8 weeks. The cost is FREE. The space is safe and confidential. The big takeaway: you are not alone!

Family and friends sharing stories

Virtual programs are offered in Iowa and Illinois.

Participants learn:

  • How to prevent relapse
  • How to improve quality of life
  • Coping and communication skills
  • Share your story
  • Exercises to calm thinking
  • Skills for working with providers and the public
  • How to protect your interests
  • Strengthen relationships
  • Setting a vision and future goals
  • Partner with healthcare providers
  • Develop autonomy and strong decision-making abilities
  • A better understanding of yourself and your recovery
The program includes everything listed, but it’s more than that. It’s an opportunity for mutual support from people who relate to your experiences and time for your to experience compassion in an accepting environment. Mental health is more important now than ever!

We are the local Quad Cities affiliate of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), a grassroots organization dedicated to educating everyone – from young people to mature adults – that mental health conditions are treatable and recovery is possible. Early detection, treatment and recovery aren’t just for cancer patients. They are for us, too.

While we do not provide treatment approaches or recommendations, we do provide a safe space for all diversities and intersectionality’s to come together in the Illinois and Iowa Quad Cities. Virtual options are available for many of our programs in order to remain safe during the pandemic. There is help and hope and, again, you are not alone!
