Get out your calendars and mark down the dates October 15 – 16 for the NAMI Illinois 2021 Virtual State Conference: A Healing State of Mind: From Crisis to Recovery for All. In the spirit of inclusivity, we’re embracing the virtual format again this year so that anyone, anywhere in Illinois can attend easily. A full complement of sessions will include presentations on topics such as Family Matters: Mental Health at School, at Home, and at Work; Building the NAMI Movement; Tools for Mental Wellness and Recovery; A Stronger, More Inclusive System; and more.
Whoo boy – we’re back in person and virtually for 2021. It’ll be so good to see everyone at our 5K walk. As a family-friendly event, we’ll enjoy children’s activities and a band. Dogs welcome. Registration and activities start at 8 a.m. Stepoff is 9:30 a.m.

We will be on hand to cheer bike riders on at a free community bike ride. Check out the NAMI table at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center.
Bike ride starts from MLK at 5:30 and route stretches for 2.6 miles with turnaround point at Francis Willard Elementary. Please bring a bicycle, water bottle, protective helmet and mask.

~Understand that mental illness are traumatic events
~Aim for better coping skills
~Find strength in sharing experiences
~Reject stigma and not tolerate discrimination
~Not judge anyone’s pain
~Forgive ourselves and reject guilt
~Embrace humor as healthy
~Accept that we can not solve every problem
NAMI Support Groups are unique because they follow a structured model to ensure you and others in the group have an opportunity to be heard and to get what you need. The group is led by trained facilitators who also have a mental health condition.
