Family & Friends Seminar at Davenport Public Library Eastern Avenue

NAMI Family & Friends is a free 90-minute seminar that informs people who have loved ones with a mental health condition how to best support them. It’s also an opportunity to meet other people in similar situations and gain community support.
Please pre-register at  or 563-386-7477 Ext. 266 (M-F 10-2). This event will be held at the Davenport Public Library, 6000 Eastern Avenue.
WHAT YOU’LL LEARN …
The seminar is led by trained people with lived experience of supporting a family member with a mental health condition. They will walk you through the following topics.- Understanding diagnoses, treatment and recovery
– Effective communication strategies
– The importance of self-care
– Crisis preparation strategies
– NAMI and community resources

In Our Own Voice @ Scott County Sheriff’s Dept.

In Our Own Voice presenters Gail and Lynn will tell their own stories of living with a mental health condition. This is an opportunity to learn first-hand about the challenges, realities and good things that come from living in recovery.

Who should attend: Family members and caregivers supporting a loved one over the age of 18 who lives with a mental health condition.

This 12-week education program will run Tuesdays April 23 to July 9. It is offered at no cost to participants.

This program is nationally developed and federal-agency approved. A grant from the Eastern Iowa Mental Health Region makes this program possible.

Please note: this program will run every Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. All registrants will be contacted 1 to 2 weeks before classes start by an instructor for a phone screening.

Registration ends April 30 (up to Class 2). Conditions covered are: Depression, Bi-Polar Disorder, Schizophrenia, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Panic Disorder, Post Traumatic Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder.

The program is taught by trained family members who have been trained to become instructors after being empowered as a result of taking this course. Many describe this program as life changing.
