Invest 90 minutes in your well-being. Journaling provides real benefits for your mental health. There’s plenty of scientific evidence that proves journaling reduces stress, improves memory, and helps you regulate emotions.
Author Jodie Toohey will show you how to use your senses as a framework for writing. She will introduce you to the “free-writing style” and guide you as you try several writing exercises. We’ll leave time for a robust discussion at the end of the seminar.
Come prepared with a journal, paper, and something to write with. This event is free and made possible through the support of the Bettendorf Public Library

Joseph Reid, author of “Broken Like Me” brings a powerful mix of personal experience and easy-to-use tools for living with a with mental illness.
He has been hospitalized for depression three times. He will share his Four Words to Move Forward on how to communicate with professionals and loved ones when you are emotionally at rock bottom and teaches how to “You-utilize” your own unique talents and abilities to get moving in the right direction.
This presentation is created to normalize the discussion around mental health. It is designed for those who struggle with a mental illness and for those who find themselves going through a period of life where they are feeling broken … like him.
This event is free to NAMI GMV members. All others $5 online or at the door. Books available for purchase $15 and author will sign. Presentation starts promptly at 6 p.m. with Q&A at 6:45 p.m. Book signing 7:30 p.m.

NAMI Support Group Guidelines – our group guidelines provide confidentiality and respect for one another. We use a nationally-developed model and the group lasts 60 minutes. Our facilitators are trained NAMI education volunteers who all have lived experience supporting a youth living with a mental illness. This a specialized NAMI Family Support Group for caregivers of youth living with or exhibiting symptoms of a mental health condition. Parents, foster parents, grandparents and other direct caregivers are welcome to attend. As always, participation is confidential and there is no cost to attend.
Thanks to the Eastern Iowa Mental Health Region for supporting this program. The support group is offered in cooperation with Family Resources who runs an eastern Iowa crisis stabilization unit for youth ages 8 to 17 years. You do not have to have a child under Family Resources care to attend. All caregivers are welcome.
